Survey from 84 members of the New York Organization of Nurse Executives and Leaders who serve on boards showed that nurse leaders are gaining ground. For instance, most respondents agreed that they obtained their board positions because of their nursing expertise. Most did not agree with the idea that an 鈥渙ld boy鈥/鈥漮ld girl鈥 network exists within the boards on which they serve. The Nurses on Boards Coalition was launched in 2014 to increase nurse representation on boards. Although the coalition achieved its goal of placing 10,000 nurses on boards by 2020, the researchers concluded continued efforts are needed to prepare nurses and nurse leaders for board service.
