Study suggests ways to reduce maternal鈥痬orbidity
To investigate which hospital practices contribute to better maternal outcomes, researchers 50 interviews with health care professionals at eight hospitals in New York City. Only half the institutions performed well on measures of maternal morbidity. The researchers鈥 findings suggested using hospital learning collaboratives 鈥渇ocused on optimizing organizational practices and policies鈥 could improve outcomes. In addition, increasing clinician and staff awareness and education on maternal health disparities, and addressing structural racism 鈥渕ay be important tools for improving equity in maternal outcomes.鈥 The appeared in the May issue of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
