Study discusses ways to reduce APRN burnout in Magnet hospitals
Magnet hospitals can APRN well-being and retention by engaging these nurses in organizational processes and systems to improve work environments, concludes a Journal of Nursing Administration study. Published in April, the cross-sectional study analyzes the work environments of 50 U.S. Magnet hospitals and the associated well-being of 21,855 APRNs, RNs, physician assistants and physicians from January to June 2021. Overall, 37% of APRNs experienced high burnout rates, compared with 34% of physicians and 49% of RNs. APRN well-being and burnout rates were similar to PAs. APRNs had significantly lower burnout rates in organizations that minimized chaotic working conditions, fostered interprofessional teamwork, gave APRNs more control over their workloads and involved APRNs in shared governance.
