This month, the National Steering Committee for Patient Safety (NSC) Safer Together: A National Action Plan to Advance Patient Safety to urge health care leaders to recommit to advancing patient and workforce safety. The plan provides clear direction for health care leaders, delivery organizations and associations to support significant advances toward safer care and reduced harm across the continuum of care. ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉúCEO Robyn Begley, DNP, RN, serves on the NSC, a multi-sector stakeholder group convened by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. A recent report from the Office of Inspector General at the Department of Health and Human Services indicated a quarter of Medicare recipients who were hospitalized in October 2018 a harmful event, 45% of which were preventable.
