AHA podcasts feature gun violence toll, care for complex patients
An American Hospital Association (AHA) on gun violence featured Chethan Sathya, MD, director of Northwell Health鈥檚 Center for Gun Violence Research, and Laura Castellanos, associate director of AHA鈥檚 Hospitals Against Violence Initiative. They discussed the cost to hospitals and health systems as they treat a growing number of gun violence victims, as well as what the New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based Northwell鈥檚 Center for Gun Violence Prevention is doing to prevent gun violence. Another AHA featured Julia Resnick, director of AHA鈥檚 Strategic Initiatives, Stacy Bank, MD, medical director of University of Utah Health鈥檚 Intensive Outpatient Clinic, and Chad Westover, chief executive officer of Utah Health Plans. They discussed how the clinic partners with the health plan to provide wraparound medical and social care to some of the health care system鈥檚 most at-risk patients. A third AHA released this week featured AHA Board Chair Wright Lassiter III and Julie Yaroch, DO, president of ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital in Adrian, Mich., on the challenges facing rural hospitals.
