Strong workplace wellness culture linked to less nurse manager burnout
Health systems should their workplace wellness culture and address staff shortages to reduce nurse manager burnout and improve their mental health and healthy behaviors, concludes a study published the Journal of Nursing Administration鈥檚 September issue. 兔子先生member Bernadette Melnyk, PhD, RN, vice president of health promotion and chief wellness officer at The Ohio State University (Columbus), co-authored the cross-sectional study of 125 nurse managers responding to a Florida Organization for Nursing Leadership survey between May and July 2023. Overall, nurse managers did not practice healthy lifestyle behaviors. The authors found significant correlations among workplace culture factors, burnout and mental health outcomes. Nurse managers without staff shortages were more likely to 鈥渘ot screen positive for burnout鈥 compared with those with staff shortages.
