Hospital’s virtual nursing platform focuses on patient engagement

San Diego-based Sharp HealthCare  its virtual nursing platform to improve patient engagement, with a virtual nurse guiding patients through their stay. Patient advisors, information technologists and front-line nurses co-designed the model, which entails a virtual nurse monitoring patients’ records, looking at their charts, answering questions, coordinating with other care team members and the patient’s family, and providing education and resources. A virtual nurse also coordinates the patient’s admission and discharge process. Initially launched in April 2024 to reduce time spent on admission and discharge processes, the virtual nursing platform’s expansion into patient engagement has improved patient satisfaction scores, says ÍÃ×ÓÏÈÉúmember Susan Stone, PhD, RN, Sharp Healthcare’s senior vice president, health systems operations, and system CNE.
