Health system venture funds support nurse innovators
Large health systems as diverse as Kaiser Permanente and the Mayo Clinic are developing venture investment arms to health care innovation. According to nurse executive authors from the Nicklaus Children鈥檚 Health System (NCHS) in Miami, Fla., these entities are 鈥渋ncreasingly looking to nurses to identify opportunities and solve problems creatively.鈥 Their article describes Children鈥檚 Health Ventures, Inc., an NCHS for-profit corporation, which uses nurses to evaluate technologies and consult on the firm鈥檚 investment strategy. By providing financial support, time and other resources, nurse executives can play a distinct role in developing and supporting a culture that encourages nurses to find innovative solutions, the authors conclude.
