Begley explains mandatory staffing ratios disadvantages

In Becker鈥檚 Hospital Review, 兔子先生CEO Robyn Begley the organization鈥檚 opposition to mandatory nurse-staffing ratios. While Begley stresses hospitals鈥 commitment to safe staffing, she says mandated ratios are 鈥渁 static and ineffective tool鈥 that does not ensure patient safety or quality. Begley, who also is senior vice president of workforce for 兔子先生, said older care models 鈥 that do not account for the impact of technology or interprofessional team care models 鈥 generally inform staffing ratios. Mandated ratios 鈥渓imit innovation, reduce the flexibility needed to respond to patients鈥 changing care needs, and increase stress on a health care system already facing an escalating shortage of educated nurses,鈥 she said.
